Meet Mads Corfixen - PhD student in DKW

: 06.09.2023

We welcome Mads Corfixen, who joined DKW as PhD student on September 1.

Mads Corfixen began his university journey in 2016 when he enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in mathematics at AAU. However, he soon realized that his interests didn't align with the curriculum, so he decided to leave the program. In 2019, Mads switched to a newly established bachelor’s program in Data Science and Machine Learning.

After completing his bachelor's degree, Mads Corfixen saw the logical next step was to pursue a master's degree in Data Science and Machine Learning as well. Last semester, he had the opportunity to start his PhD studies as part of a 4+4 program, and he decided to pursue it.

Research area and focus?

- I am interested in big data integration, aligning data from different, heterogeneous sources, and accurately modelling (meta)data and provenance using knowledge graphs.

Projects you will be involved in?

- I will work on the Dark Science project, which aims to build a large reference database of microorganisms in Denmark. My focus will be building a framework for integrating information regarding genomes of microorganisms, their habitats, soil properties, and satellite and drone imaging.

Why did you choose to continue at AAU?

- In my years at AAU as a student, I've really liked it here, so it felt natural to me that, given the opportunity, I would continue to study here.
